ORIGIN S/T Review.

This band was formed in 1997 by the two guitarists Paul Ryan and Jeremy Turner and a few months after their start, they had a complete line-up. The four-song demo-tape A Coming Into Existence was recorded and the minute it ended up at the Relapse-office, they had a deal. In the beginning of 1999, the bass-player and drummer were replaced by Doug Williams (ex Cephalic Carnage) and John Longstreth (ex Angel Corpse), the only two members of Origin with experience from other more / less successful bands, and Origin started to prepare material for their full-length debut. Unfortunately, I never got lucky to hear the demo, but if it was just half as good as this album, I'm not surprised at all that Relapse signed them. Their technical death / grind is like made for that extreme label. The singer Mark Manning is sharing the vocal duties with the both guitarists, and since all three of them sound different, the result is most interesting. That's just one thing that makes them stick out from other brutal bands. The whole album is filled with furious riffing and blasting drumming and it's nothing I would recommend for the weak. If you think you can handle it though, then you should get your hands on this CD. In my eyes, it's one of the best records so far this year!
