‘Deep Throat’ Turns 30 (June 11)

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Next Tuesday (June 11) marks the 30th anniversary of an event explicitly important to the sexual revolution: The day Deep Throat was released in theaters. On June 11, 1972, Deep Throat premiered in New York and sucked up tons of media attention after Screw magazine reported it was the “best porn ever made.” The film was the first adult movie to reach mainstream America and made a household name out of leading lady Linda Lovelace. According to Lovelace’s biographer Eric Danville, the actress had an everchanging attitude about the film – everything from saying she felt sexually liberated to saying it was a documentary of her rape. However, she never actually saw the film until a few months before her death this past April and admitted to Danville, “I don’t see what the big deal was about.” Danville plans to honor Lovelace’s memory this Saturday (June 8) by showing a special 30th anniversary version of Deep Throat at the Remote nightclub in New York.
