Miami Vice Theme Composer Talks Pastel Suits

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Wireless Flash) – He may have written the flashy theme to Miami Vice, but composer Jan Hammer says his big moment during the show came when he was cast for a cameo – as a wedding singer. Hammer says he was heavily-involved with the show behind the scenes, but most remembers the time played a wedding singer at the wedding of Don Johnson and Sheena Easton’s characters. He says it was particularly “cool” because he got to don a pastel suit and shoes with no socks just like rock ’n’ roll cops “Sonny Crockett” and “Ricardo Tubbs.” However, Hammer, who is set to release a new CD, Miami Vice: The Complete Collection, on July 23, does regret he was never given a speaking role like other musicians like Phil Collins and Miles Davis.
