New Zealand Mayor Wants To Get Rid of STD
South Taranaki District, New Zealand (Wireless Flash) Whats in a name? Plenty if the initials are S.T.D. Currently, the tiny town of South Taranaki District, New Zealand, is known by locals as S.T.D. which also stands for sexually transmitted disease and mayor Mary Bourke thinks its time for a name change. No one has accused S.T.D. of being a V.D. hotbed but Bourke is convinced the initials transmit a negative image. She says changing the name to South Taranaki would give a better initial impression than the current name. The South Taranaki District Council will vote on the final name change in May and Bourke admits shes worried that a growing number of citizens prefer the old name.
