GORILLA EXPERTS NOT BANANAS OVER ‘APES’

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – Zookeepers aren’t exactly going bananas for the Planet of the Apes. The San Diego Union-Tribune recently screened the ape flick for primate experts at the San Diego Zoo, who all gave thumbs-down to Tim Burton’s new flick. Ape keeper Fernando Covarrubias says if real primates jumped as high as those in the movie, he’d “...have to redesign the enclosures at the zoo.” He also says real apes can only throw underhand, which makes Planet of the Apes’ spear-tossing scenes impossible. The gorilla experts also claim there’s no way real primates would let themselves be bossed around by an “excitable chimp” like Tim Roth’s character. However, the opinions aren’t all negative. The chimp keepers say the human actors posing as apes do a good job of “swinging back and forth.”
