Cover Band Combines The Strokes and Tom Petty

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – The Strokes’ “Last Nite” sounds pretty similar to Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” but now one rock band has created a cover version that blends both songs together. Adam Gimbel, singer from San Diego’s Rookie Card the Movie, says he’s always wanted to cover both songs separately but when a friend recently pointed out the similarities, he knew he had to combine them. Fittingly, Gimbel’s band debuted the song, now called “Last Nite She Was An American Girl,” last night (Apr. 29) in a San Diego club while the Strokes played across town – a show that Gimbel and crew were originally supposed to open. However that spot went to Tenacious D, which was probably a good thing, says Gimbel, who admits he was worried the Strokes might get mad if they heard his cover since “...no musician likes when someone points out that one of their songs sounds like another one.”
